The end of the year 2015 was marked by the migrant crisis in media. The coverage gradually spanned from young African men to Syrian families travelling across the Balkans and from tragedies in the Mediterranean Sea to Czech detention facilities, situation in the Middle East and, last but not least, the Czech debate about Czechs themselves.

The prevailing subject matters were interlinked with the publicity of the so-called Islamic State to a significant degree, with news about the financial crisis in Greece playing a particularly significant role in June and July.

Media attention gradually diverted from what was happening in Ukraine; nevertheless, the Minsk II cease-fire agreement (February) and escalation of fighting in the eastern part of the country, which had preceded it, drew impressive media attention. Russia’s military campaign in Syria, which was launched in September, attracted more publicity in the end.

As far as local issues are concerned, media evergreens included the electronic sales recording representing Andrej Babiš’s agenda and the so-called Norway Case of children taken from their mother Eva Michaláková. President Zeman attracted a lot of attention, mostly controversial, in relation to the event of the Ztohoven art group in September and his speech in Albertov, Prague, on 17th November. The recent Swiss case of member of the European Parliament Miroslav Ransdorf attracted a lot of publicity, relatively most often from tabloid media.
